A replacement reader can look identical to the one removed, while belonging to a different registration or carrying a different serial number. For a Canadian power-bank station, the replacement is complete only when the new device is mapped correctly and the rental service has passed a controlled acceptance check.

Use a replacement record with before and after states. Its purpose is to preserve traceability, not to erase old payment or rental history when a physical component leaves the venue.

Confirm the replacement belongs to this Canadian route

Stripe lists WisePad 3 for Canada, with CAD transactions and a Canadian receiving account and reader Location. The operator should purchase the eligible replacement through its own local Stripe account and confirm the required registration process. A visually similar reader from another market is not an approved substitute.

CoreCharge’s matched configuration places the native Android application and Terminal SDK on the internal cabinet controller. The agreed USB connection supplies reader data and power from the cabinet; no external merchant phone is the ordinary host. Stripe handles payments into the operator’s account, while CoreCharge joins orders, release, return and pricing.

Record the old state before disconnecting it

Note the cabinet, venue, old reader serial, available software information and the reason for replacement. Review active rentals and any uncertain payment outcomes. Assign someone to resolve those records even while the reader is unavailable. Do not treat removing hardware as permission to cancel every active order.

Choose the service window and pause new borrowing through the agreed operating procedure. Preserve the old reader’s references in historical records. Follow the authorized account and supplier process for retiring, returning or storing the removed reader; do not leave it available for accidental use at another station.

Replacement stage Required check Evidence
Before removal Old identity, current orders and unresolved payments. Replacement case and named support owner.
Physical installation Correct reader, mount, cable and accessible card interface. New serial and photograph of the actual fit.
Registration Intended local account, environment and Location. Authorized configuration confirmation.
Connection Cabinet application discovers and connects the intended reader. Observed identity and software readiness.
Acceptance Approved payment, release, return and final amount. One matched order and payment reference.
Handover Old device disposition and updated venue record. Reopening approval and next review.

Inspect the connection without improvising hardware changes

Use the factory-confirmed data cable and power arrangement for the matched cabinet. Stripe’s Android USB guidance requires a cable capable of the necessary data connection. Follow the agreed installation instructions; do not alter wiring or guess electrical specifications to make a replacement fit.

Check that the reader is reachable and its normal prompts can be followed. Compare installed software with current Canadian requirements and allow any required maintenance before customers use it. A successful power-on does not establish correct registration or payment readiness.

Recommission the rental route, not just the reader

Verify the correct live environment and operator account. Use an authorized controlled rental to confirm the new reader processes the intended method, exactly the expected bank is released, a return is recognized and the final CAD amount matches the order. Test cancellation in the appropriate environment.

Replacement should not silently change enabled payment methods or the rental policy. Where Interac is in scope, keep its separately approved financial flow; the Canadian payment-method guide explains that distinction. The account ownership guide helps preserve the original division of responsibilities.

Close with a traceable handover

Update the service record and train the venue contact to report the new reader identity. Confirm the intended staffed or unattended use remains appropriate. Review CoreCharge’s reader-ready stations, or request a Canadian reader-replacement checklist with your cabinet and reader details.
